The one day woodcarving workshop is a good introduction to carving and learning some basic carving skills.
I can help and advise you on designing your carving and show how to use the woodcarving tools.
At the end of the day you will take home your own personally designed wood carving.
The carving studio is set up for teaching small groups of children and adults. With a maximum group size of 3, I can give as much individual help and support as is appropriate for each participant.

Two day woodcarving workshop
All levels of experience welcome, maximum group size 3,
The two day course provides the opportunity for a more in-depth experience of woodcarving and the completion of a bigger project of your choice. The second day is very helpful for consolidating the new skills learned on day one.
In two days you can make a bigger or more complex relief or a three dimensional carving.
With a maximum group size of 3, I can give as much individual help and support as is appropriate for each participant. The weekend course is suitable for complete beginners with or without woodworking or artistic experience. Experienced artists and carvers will enjoy the opportunity to deepen and and develop skills.
I specially welcome children and teenagers from the age of 12 as part of a group booking of 2 or 3 people. Children have to be accompanied by a paying adult.
Please don't hesitate to ask for advice on tool sharpening, carving tools and suitable carving wood during the course. I am always very happy to share my experience on woodcarving.

Whittling
Whittling half day for children This is a private booking £95 for the whole session regardless of number of participants. Max. 3 children and one accompanying adult.
February half term special for families and groups of friends.
Mornings and afternoon sessions available. 10am to 1pm or 2pm to 5pm
I am welcoming groups of up to 3 children with one accompanying adult during the February half term for half day whittling sessions to my studio in Buckfastleigh.

Limited to 3 participants, this 1 day course takes place in my woodcarving studio in Buckfastleigh, South Devon which is set-up for teaching children and adults.
The focus of this practical one day course for home educators, parents, grandparents and teachers, is on how to teach children whittling and basic woodwork skills in a creative and safe way. My background is in sculpture and creative education and I enjoy showing and encouraging educators how working with wood can become a tool to discover the world of sculpture. Experience shows that practical, hands-on skill-building activities support children's development and self confidence.
The core of this workshop is the artistic whittling of various projects (see photos) all suitable for beginners, adults and children. I will show and explain how to use and sharpen the tools. In a further stage I show how you can teach and demonstrate your skills to the children. By the end of the workshop you will have made a number of projects that you will take home, together with the skills and knowledge for you to make these with children.
My teaching experience is based on over 22 years of teaching whittling, woodcarving and other three dimensional arts and crafts to adults and children. I love sharing my experience and enthusing others in working with wood.

Exploration into Pure Form, a three, four or five day woodcarving workshop
10am to 4pm, Maximum group size 3, price depending on length and groups size
With this being a private booking the workshop can be shaped to your level of experience and interests. You have to decide the length of your sculpture workshop. Sometimes we have clear ides of what we want to make at other times we look for inspiration. Both approaches are right and a good starting point. Inspiration can come from forms in nature, a particular piece of wood, a story or art of the past and present.
My own artistic practice is inspired by forms in nature geometry, special pieces of wood and my love for history and modern sculpture.
The course is suitable for adults and teenagers with all levels of experience. The completed carving can be added to any arts portfolio. Please ask for details of how I could support.
A can explain and show tool sharpening, recommend carving tools, suitable wood and how to where to buy them.
